When tiny, silly Kinjal Singh used to ask her mother Vibha Singh, ”where is my father”, she would evasively avoid it by saying ”wo chaand par chale gaye”. Little did Kinjal know that her father was killed when she was only five months old. On the black night of 12-13 March 1982, K.P.Singh, Kinjal’s father was killed in a fake encounter by his own colleagues. Although K.P.Singh passed his IAS exams, his eyes closed up forever with many unaccomplished dreams. He could’nt live up as to become an IAS officer.

When peers were out for playing, Kinjal along with her mother used to travel to the supreme court in Delhi from her home in U.P. Vibha, a brave mother, got a job in Varanasi treasury. She did her best to educate Kinjal and her younger daughter Pranjal, who was born seven months after K.P.Singh’s death.

Kinjal studied hard along with her up and down visits with her mother, to the supreme court from her home in U.P. Her hard work continued while she was in lady shri ram college but the road yet was not smoother for the two sisters. Their mother got diagnosed with cancer and shook Kinjal and Pranjal, who already lost their father. After the battle with cancer, Vibha died peacefully as she got sure that both her daughters were going to become IAS officers and also going to get justice for their father’s death. As being emotionally strong, Kinjal never carried the load of bad memories while she studied. She wrote her college exam mere two days after the death of her mother and secured an outstanding first rank in the college. After mother’s death, as the two sisters had no other family members, they used their vacations to study in the college itself, while other students went to their homes for enjoying vacations.

While many break down in adversities, there are few who break records. Kinjal Singh secured 25th rank in all India IAS exam in 2008 and Pranjal Singh secured 252nd.Thirty one years later, on 4 March 2013, justice was provided to K.P.Singh with three police personnel given the capital punishment and five others were given lifetime imprisonment by the CBI special court.
