The pandemic has taken its toll on us. As if we all were sentenced to jail -locked up in our own homes for living a life that was unfair to mother nature and unkind to others. The last time when we were free to explore the world was few long months ago. The shutdown of the planet has showered a lot of spare time on billions of people, and human race has trolled itself on the internet for being high on selfishness. There’s no doubt that we are fed up with our acts of selfishness. Our speeding vehicles had taken the lives of others. We had been unfair to animals too, because we considered ourselves to be on top of the food chain and beyond repercussions. Many such acts had shown the level to which our kindness could disappear. Now, when we are not too busy with our work, we have an opportunity to rethink the way we would be living in our future.
The pandemic will fade away, and things will get back to normalcy one day soon. That day will also be a chance for everyone to restart our lives with fresh terms. Let’s begin that new life by injecting a bit of kindness in ourselves.
Bringing back the famed Kohinoor diamond to our country seems tougher than finding a needle in a haystack, but we can surely bring back the gem of a quality called kindness into our lives with much ease. So, when you restart your life now, don’t search happiness in roadside vadapav, dazzling jewellery, or huge profits in your business; Just find your happiness in being kind. Merge your memories with some random objects. Like, every time you see calendar dancing in a gust of wind, remind yourself to indulge in some kindness- to other beings.
The arc of smile for newbies in office, bouts of contagious laughter with the teenagers in the neighbourhood, a full week without complaints, an encouraging letter in a child’s tiffin box, an invigorating cup of tea with neighbours, the sepia coloured postcards we used to send to close ones…
Aren’t we missing these things in our lives- not only the kindness in these things, but also those little pleasures of life, which were purest in their own way! In this era, why do we think too much before doing such little acts of kindness? Is there any translucent barrier hard to traverse? Definitely not! This ‘(not a daunting) task’ is sure to shift gears and overdrive your life towards positivity.
‘Kindness, quite simply, is the rent we must pay for the space we occupy on this planet,’ writes Robin Sharma. Isn’t he quite right? Harold S. Kushner, author of When Bad Things Happen To Good People has written, ‘Not because of who they are or what they do in return, but because of who you are.’
